What is a tresse?

Tresses has changed in meaning over the years and now refers to any hairstyle, but especially a woman's long unbound hair. This word derives from the Old French “tresse”, which may stem from the Vulgar Latin trichia, "braid or rope," and the Greek root trikhia, "rope."

What are Insta Locs?

Insta Locs are Locs that are manually formed using your own hair and a crochet tool. The hair is manipulated with the tool to tangle and form each Loc leaving you with a full head of Locs that appear to have been installed and formed over time but only actually took one appointment to achieve.

What is a protective style?

A protective style is a style specifically for protecting your ends. Retaining healthy ends is how hair growth is visible.

What is a good hair style while I’m transitioning to a life of natural hair care?

Any type of protective style will do! I suggest twists done with a textured hair. This type of hair style allows you to wet your hair without compromising the style.

What is the best method for starting Locs?

There is no one best way to start locs, because as different as we are from one another, so is our hair! To customize a Loc experience unique to you, we suggest that you first book a consultation. We will closely analyze your hair type, discuss your Loc goal, your lifestyle, and help to make the best decision for your successful Loc journey.

What is the best way to moisturize my hair?

WATER!!!!!! then flow up with my Nourish oil to seal in the moisture from the water. Oil is not a moisturizer!

What is a Pre-poo? & Why should I do it?

A Pre-poo is when you apply oil to your hair before shampooing. You let the oil sit for at least 10 minutes, but the longer the better. After a Pre-poo, you can proceed with your regular shampoo routine. Pre-pooing protects your hair from moisture depletion during the shampoo process, while ensuring a deeper clean.

What should I do if I’m running late for my appointment?

Call or text me directly to let me know your arrival time. If you are going to be more than 30 minutes late, your appointment will be rescheduled.

Is it essential to have a healthy scalp?

YES, but the better question is, how do I maintain a healthy scalp? Something that is often overlooked is balancing the PH of your scalp.

Is there anything that will make my hair grow really fast, and really long?

The food that you eat, and drinking plenty of water! You make your hair healthy from the inside, out! A well balanced diet and foods that promote growth (Salmon, Tomatoes, Walnuts…) are all very good for your hair.

Are Loc extensions permanent?

Most locs can be removed. Loc extensions are no different. I install my Loc extensions for longevity. So if you choose, you can keep them for the rest of your Loc life.

Why aren’t my tresses growing and flowing?

All hair is growing! The reason you don’t see it is because you need a healthy hair routine. Our hair is delicate and needs gentle treatment. So a schedule of shampoos twice a month, protective styles, treatments trims and moisture will allow your tresses to flourish.

Why are my Locs breaking off?

There are several reasons locs grow weak and break. A few of the main reasons are, over manipulation and heavy product build up. I use light products for Loc maintenance.  Products that don’t not contain butters or wax.

How can I get my hair to be more shiny?

Shine is light reflection…in order for light to reflect there has to be a flat surface. While we don’t have “flat hair”, there are some methods for promoting shine.

Cold water rinses, sealing of cuticles, Pre-poo, and vinegar rinsing before your shampoo are a few ways to promote shine, even when your hair is in it’s natural state. *Moisturized hair is the shiniest hair!

How can I protect my hair from summer heat?

The elements can be harsh on your tresses. When soaking up the sun make sure you keep them moisturized. Protective styles that are water friendly is the way to go.

Which oils should I use? Are there oils to avoid?

Everybody is different, so everyone’s hair is different! Some of my favorite oils that work for everyone are Extra Virgin Olive oil, Jojoba oil, Sweet Almond oil, and Avocado oil. These oils should be unrefined and cold pressed!!! If you don’t feel like researching the best oil for you, just buy our Tressentials Nourish Oil ;)
